Accommodation
You're pretty much guaranteed a place in halls in your 1st year and are a variety to choose from whether you want party central Fallowfield, quieter Victoria Park or the close to everything City Campus halls. I'd choose halls that have a good residents association and that suits you. There are tons of cheap supermarkets to buy from and things like Chinatown, the Curry mile and cheap student places.
Facilities
All halls provide internet, however there are computer clusters all over uni. The library is massive, has a ridiculous amount of books and it's easy to get lost. It stays open 24/7 during exam period and has loads of squidgy chairs, a cafe and coffee machines. There are also smaller libraries dotted around campus.
Night life
What can I say... there is something for everyone, the music scene in Manchester is one of the best. There are plenty of cheap pubs if that's your thing plus the massive student union. If you're into dance music then head to Printworks where the main clubs like Tiger Tiger are. Drum and bass and dubstep have a huge selection: Warehouse Project, Factory, Area 51 and Sankeys. Plenty of clubs have rock and Indie nights and there are so many gigs and artists playing here.
Shops
Well Manchester pretty much has it all, the Arndale centre has 240 shops, Trafford centre is a bus ride away but has lots of shops, Afflecks Palace for the weird and wonderful.
Societies and clubs
Go to freshers fair and you'll get pulled into everything! There are loads of things to join and they're great for meeting people.
Sports
There's Sugden sports centre where you get a discounted student membership, Manchester aquatic centre and a gym in Fallowfield so there will be one near you.
Student union
Is the biggest in England, has a couple of bars, cafe, restaurant with cheap prices, right in the middle of uni campus. It also has a cheap hairdresser and consists of 3 academies where lots of good artists come to play.
Teaching
Depends what course you're on. For my course I only had 7 hours a week, 3 modules which made 6 hours of lectures and 1 seminar. You get a lot of support by way of handouts and lecture notes online and with essay reading lists. The lectures are interesting and easy to follow and the seminars allow more of a discussion with no pressure. The feedback from assessments you get is helpful and generally the course is well set out.
My course (Ancient History and Archaeology)
Is very small so we don't have socials like other courses which is annoying but is very interesting. the timetable is great as you're expected to do a lot of reading on top so if your good at independent study you'll fit in fine. Coursework is basically essays and sometimes a weekly quiz.
