The PGCE training was a bad experience. The lecturers were nice and supportive apart from the tutor and my school mentor. They were not understanding, patient and were really harsh in their observations. They expected me to be an excellent teacher after only one month of practice in the first school placement. Everything was my fault and not the pupils' fault. Most of us were sent to placements far away from home in depressing towns.
Trainees go into school experiences blind, having had little training in issues that really matter and a lot of time wasted on the minute issues. The course is badly designed and trainees are ill prepared for going out into schools. Lecturers are friendly enough but often not willing to take on board comments and concerns from trainees. I would definitely not recommend this university for MFL PGCE training!
The accommodation in my first placement was very nice but very far away from my flat. Therefore, I had to pay two rents!!! Bath is very nice and safe but expensive and not vibrant like Bristol.
The course didn't help me to find a job because of the lack of support. I was told I was not made for teaching 2 weeks before the end of the first placement and I didn't have the opportunity to do the second placement.
PLEASE, don't go there!
