Cost of Living:
Shops & Banks:
Lancaster is a good academic university, but that's part of the problem. The majority of people there spend more time with their heads in a book than they do socialising and having a good time and when they do go out, they seem to set themselves a curfew of 10 o'clock.
The girls are all of an extremely low standard on nights out, with the good looking ones seemingly choosing to stay in and the nights out are pretty lame. The student union is made up really of people who don't want to plan good drinking nights out but instead walking trips around what is albeit the lovely little town of Lancaster itself, however when embarking on 3 years of uni at the age of 18/19-21/22 this isn't really what I was a expecting.
There are two food shops on campus, both of which are a bit of a rip-off. The Spar shop isn't too bad but the 'Central' shop represents incredibly bad value for money, e.g. 4 cans of lager being over 5 pounds, and individual cans of Pepsi or Coca Cola being nearly 85p. The chippy on campus has the worst chips in the north of England, I feel I'd be at liberty to say, without needing to sample the competition!
An example of the ridiculous nature of the students is that in one peer assessment group, a lad in out group missed one meeting out of around 40 due to a dentist appointment, but the rest of my group decided this was enough to warrant losing half his marks on that project. It's this petty nature and ridiculous square attitude that encompasses Lancaster and that's why frankly it is a university for people who want to just get a good degree, and who can stomach the stuck up aura which breezes around the campus. This place will suck the fun out of you. Stay well clear.
