Cost of Living:
Shops & Banks:
Overall I am very happy with the course, university and accommodation. The modules are challenging, especially the practical ones if you have never studied in this area before, but the academic staff are very supportive if you are willing to put the effort in. They will not spoon feed you the answers but if you go to them with a genuine problem they will help you out. It is not an easy degree by any means and the amount of coursework required does severely eat into your social life but it is definitely worth studying if you are interested in working as a professional in the construction industry.
The facilities at Byrom Street are very good and currently undergoing a major refurbishment which will be finished within the next year. There are ample computing facilities on campus and within the Avril Robarts Centre. The only thing missing from campus is a Students Union bar, the only one we have being situated on the Mount Pleasant campus.
All of the accommodation available in the city is privately run and regulated by Liverpool Student Homes (LSH). In the first year the university finds you a room in one of the large halls based upon your preferences but in further years you apply yourself through LSH. All the accommodation that I have seen is of a high standard and quite a few offer en suite rooms and a free broadband connection. I live in Prospect Point which has both and is well situated for all campuses, it is also not overly expensive at £75 a week.
The city of Liverpool is a very good place to be a student, the nightlife is excellent and there is a student night every day of the week, drinks in town are invariably cheaper then those in the union. All the major shops and banks have a branch within the city centre which is very compact so you do not really need a car, Lime Street and Moorfields station are just a short walk from most of the student accommodation. The locals are all friendly and helpful and despite its reputation it is a safe place to be.
