Staffordshire University, like any uni, has its good and bad points.
In my first year I found some of the lecturers really unapproachable and a lot of my friends did too. Then it dawned on me how many students they have. When you go to uni you are in charge of your learning, if you have a question you have to ask it. Uni is not high school, you don't get spoon fed everything. In the end you are responsible for your grade.
In my final year I had a problem with one of my so called 'professional' actors. I told one lecturer and suddenly everyone was behind me supporting me and really got me through a hard time.
Some of the lecturers do use the facilities for their own projects which is really annoying when you need a computer. However, they're always asking for students to help out with their films and it looks really good experience. If it wasn't for the experience I got from one film shoot I don't think I would have got my job!
I worked at the student bar for 2 years and I can tell you all, they don't water down the beer. Its hard for the union because they want to bring you good ale but every-time they bring out something over £2 people complain its too expensive! Lets face it, what do you want from your uni? Cheap booze and a dance - simple! The union only lets students in, so sometimes around exam time it gets a bit quiet, but other than that it's great. If you want something a bit bigger go to LRV its not that far and doesn't cost much to get there. Its the same deals just bigger.
It sucked having to pay £30 to graduate and I really didn't want to go but my mum made me (embarrassing much) and I really enjoyed myself. I didn't get the best grade ever but felt really proud of myself and everyone else I knew who had passed.
Staffordshire uni wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought I would be spoon fed everything and I'm really glad I wasn't. Everything I know I know because the lecture may have briefly mentioned it and I went out and learnt it, which is how it should be. The industry is so hard to get into and if you get into it and expect your boss to hold your hand all the way you are going to be out on your arse so fast.
Staffs uni was top cos I made it that way.
