The Film Production course is awesome! Well recommended.
I loved the film course, I didn't know anything when I started and now I feel confident with loads of gear and I love FCP which I know use all the time in my new job in the city. They have loads of equipment (about 70 pro cameras!!), audio gear, lights etc and have a pile of grip gear as well. They also have 60 Avid editing suites! Yes, 60! and about 30 Final Cut Suites. They have two studios as well and one is brand new. The edit rooms do get busy towards the end of the term but I got bought a Mac so I never struggled to edit.
The course is generally very good, there are some excellent lecturers and some lazy ones but hey that's uni for you. Some of them try very hard and are always available where as others were not so good.
The work load started off being small in level 1, then level 2 hit me like a bus, level 3 was more relaxed as the final year project meant you were in class less but the work load to complete in the end was crazy but worth it. It was full on and made me work hard to learn fast. I took a year out and worked in London running for a post house. Yes I learnt loads but it was different to the uni and taught me that you get out what you put in and to succeed in this industry you have to work really hard. Then I went back to uni and I got to use the Panasonic P2 HD format for my final project which was really good. My FYP supervisor was good and helped me loads.
I agree with the comments on the union not being great but the Stoke site is loads bigger and there are more girls. It's all techy stuff and computing at Stafford but I never had problems with a lack of girls, Stafford is full of them! I didnt get involved in any society stuff but the nights in Legends when it was the netballer nights were always quality!
Stafford is ok too, I was brought up in the outskirts of London and I liked Stafford, it has everything you need and its got the Zanzibar as well!! Well, that could be improved. There are loads of bands on everywhere, they are not always good but some were awesome.
If you want to work in the film/tv industry then I reckon this course is great. It could be better in places but overall I had a great 3 years.
